The Maple Leafs and Avalanche exchanged a pair of big-name players Monday.
Toronto acquired defenseman Tyson Barrie, forward Alex Kerfoot and a sixth-round pick in 2020 from Colorado, the teams announced. The Avalanche received forward Nazem Kadri, defenseman Calle Rosen and a third-round selection in the deal.
Barrie finished last season with 59 points, which ranked seventh among NHL defensemen. He also added a goal and seven assists in 12 playoff games. Barrie has spent his entire eight-year career in Colorado.
Kerfoot has recorded 34 goals and 51 assists in 157 regular-season games over two NHL seasons.
