UFC star Conor McGregor has taken shots from a fellow lightweight fighter who claimed the Irishman\u2019s \u2018life is going to s***\u2019.<\/p>\n

McGregor, 35, has come under fire from lightweight UFC fighter Grant Dawson who believes that the \u2018Notorious\u2019 is finished with the sport. McGregor hasn\u2019t set foot inside the cage since he suffered a broken leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.<\/p>\n

Since his last bout, McGregor hasn\u2019t lost his edge after he appeared in fine form during the launch event of his Forged Irish Stout last month. But Dawson doesn\u2019t feel that McGregor is ready to return to the sport. <\/p>\n

Dawson told MMA Fighting he\u2019s yet to be convinced that McGregor will return to the ring, he said: \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s coming back. I don\u2019t think he\u2019s fighting. I think he\u2019s going through a mid-life crisis right now." <\/p>\n

The 29-year-old believes that McGregor has struggled mentally without fighting and has left the Irishman questioning his \u2018purpose\u2019 in life. He added: "We\u2019re going kind of deep here but the thing that makes people happy isn\u2019t chasing happiness, it\u2019s chasing purpose. Conor used to have a purpose, and I believe Conor doesn\u2019t have a purpose anymore, and that\u2019s why his life is kind of going to s***.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe just doesn\u2019t know what he wants to do. He doesn\u2019t need to do anything. He doesn\u2019t have to do anything. He\u2019s just in this point where he doesn\u2019t know what his purpose in life is and I think that\u2019s (why) he\u2019s so all over the place.<\/p>\n

"\u2018Oh, I\u2019m going to box, oh I\u2019m going to do bare-knuckle, oh I\u2019m going to fight Michael Chandler, oh I\u2019m going to do The Ultimate Fighter.\u2019 It\u2019s just bouncing between what he wants to do. I\u2019m retired again, now I\u2019m not retired again. I just think he needs to find some purpose outside of MMA if he really wants to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGregor\u2019s proposed bout against Michael Chandler, which was announced in February, was thrown in doubt by his absence from the USADA drug testing pool. But McGregor hinted that he\u2019s back in the pool \u2013 which he must remain in for at least six months before he\u2019s eligible to compete.<\/p>\n

And by the looks of it, he's working hard towards a return. He wrote on Instagram on Thursday: "Find my targets. Hit them. F*** the consequences. You\u2019re going down. This is fighting. Sparring day with slick @grozdevnikolay.<\/p>\n

"Always a banger of a spar with the slick fella. Submitted my stuff to Novitzky. Ball rolling see you soon you little light work b***h."<\/p>\n
