It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new plan for the European Super League has been revealed after the breakaway competition was given a boost by a court ruling on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and FIFA were found to have acted against competition law in their blocking of the creation of a European Super League\u00a0in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0binding ruling handed\u00a0out\u00a0marked the latest stage in a legal process initiated by the European Super League Company after clubs who participated in the breakaway plans were threatened with sanctions by the governing bodies, while they faced a barrage of overwhelming criticism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new format &#8211; which was revealed by A22 CEO Bernd Reichart &#8211; will see both a men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s competition, with 64 teams competing in the men&#8217;s and 32 in the women&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In term of the men&#8217;s competition, the 64 clubs will be split into three separate leagues &#8211; star, gold and blue &#8211; with the star league the strongest and blue the weakest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209725-12889593-image-a-16_1703158767358.jpg\" height=\"428\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The new plan for the European Super League has been revealed (pictured CEO Bernd Reichart)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209723-12889593-image-a-17_1703158781174.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It comes after a court ruled UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking its creation in 2021<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79209831-12889593-image-a-18_1703158897276.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Barcelona and Real Madrid were two of the biggest proponents of the European Super League<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>The star and gold leagues will have 16 teams separated into two groups of eight, but the blue league will have 32 clubs, split across four groups of eight.<\/p>\n<p>Each team will be guaranteed 14 matches with everyone playing their group stage opponents home and away on midweek dates between September and April.<\/p>\n<p>The top four clubs from both groups in the gold and star leagues and the top two teams in the four blue groups will then take part in their league&#8217;s knockout stages during the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Two-legged quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place, before the winners of each leagues will be crowned following finals at neutral grounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan &#8211; which is being led by sports consultancy firm A22 &#8211; insisted it was &#8216;based on sporting merit with no permanent members&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, there is promotion and relegation with the bottom team in both groups of the star league being relegated and replaced by the two finalists in the gold league.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same for the blue league finalists, who will replace the teams that finish bottom of each gold group.<\/p>\n<p>There is an even bigger turnover from the blue league, with 20 clubs to leave the competition each season and be replaced by 20 others based on their domestic performances.<\/p>\n<p>The initial year of the competition will see clubs in all leagues selected based upon &#8216;an index of transparent, performance-based criteria&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>All games will be streamed free to air, with the aim of bringing in increased revenue through advertising.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Women&#8217;s Super League will run concurrently, although only 32 clubs will be part of the venture.<\/p>\n<p>They will be split across 16 in each of the star and gold leagues, with two groups of eight in both divisions.<\/p>\n<p>This will follow a similar pattern with 14 group games, before two-legged knockout stages until champions of the star and gold divisions are confirmed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79210019-12889593-image-a-42_1703159400335.jpg\" height=\"425\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79210059-12889593-image-a-41_1703159400329.jpg\" height=\"425\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Real Madrid president Florentino Perez (left) and Barcelona president Joan Laporta (right) have continued to push for its creation despite the various legal challenges faced\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/11\/79207553-12889593-Fans_turned_out_in_full_force_to_protest_the_announcement_of_the-a-20_1703158982396.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fans turned out in full force to protest the announcement of the &#8216;closed&#8217; who is also the Super League&#8217;s CEO &#8211; said: &#8216;There is big news today: Football is free. Free from the monopoly of UEFA, free to pursue the best ideas without fear of sanctions and under our proposal, free viewing of all live matches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This morning, CJEU (European Court of Justice) ended UEFA\u2019s near 70-year monopoly and opened the door to innovation in football: Clubs can now openly discuss and consider proposals to address the sport\u2019s most pressing issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The cornerstone of our proposal remains the ten principles we published in February. A couple of the principles are worth repeating: Participation will be based on sporting merit. There will be no permanent members and clubs will remain committed to their domestic leagues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The new SuperLeague format would lead to exciting matches throughout the entire year, not just part of the year.
