Rashid Khan produced the most economical four-over spell at the 2020 Indian Premier League to help Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Delhi Capitals and keep their play-off hopes alive.
The Afghanistan spinner claimed extraordinary figures of 3-7 from his four overs as Sunrisers clinched an 88-run victory over Delhi in Dubai.
Wriddhiman Saha – promoted to open in replace of England World Cup winner Jonny Bairstow – smashed 87 from 45 balls and captain David Warner made 66 as Sunrisers posted a superb score of 219-2.
Delhi could only stutter to 131 in reply, with Rashid taking three wickets and Sandeep Sharma claiming two to see Sunrisers Hyderabad climb to sixth in the IPL table with two group matches remaining.
Ricky Ponting’s Delhi Capitals remain in a strong position in third but have now lost three successive matches as they look to secure a play-off spot.
Speaking after Sunrisers’ victory over Delhi, Rashid said: ‘Winning the game was the most important thing. The wicket was helping me a lot.
‘What I’m mainly focusing on is to bowl economically, whether I get wickets or not. Dot balls help me get wickets and also helps the other end to get wickets too.
‘I just go with a clear mind, that’s my biggest strength – I want to bowl a good line and length, no matter the situation.
‘You have to mix up and play with the batsman’s mind, and see the weaker and stronger areas of the batsman as well. So I keep those things in mind.’
Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Saha, meanwhile, said: ‘I got the opportunity for the second time this year and thankfully I took my chance.
‘It’s a lot easier to play when there’s David Warner at the other end. In the powerplay, I just play my natural cricketing shots. Luckily it came off.’
Sunrisers Hyderabad face Royal Challengers Bangalore in another must-win match on Saturday, while Delhi will look to bounce back against Mumbai Indians on the same day.
