Deontay Wilder to ‘make announcement’ regarding trilogy rematch with Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder is going to make an imminent announcement on his world heavyweight title trilogy rematch with Tyson Fury, his manager Shelly Finkel says. The Bronze Bomber is due to rematch Fury in December.

There have been doubts over whether Wilder would take part in the third instalment of his rivalry with the Gypsy King.

Wilder activated his rematch clause for a third fight just days after being knocked out by Fury back in February.

But rumours have since swirled over Wilder’s training situation, niggling injuries, and his desire to compete again.

Finkel says that Wilder WILL fight Fury in December, however, and that an announcement on the fight, which possibly also reveals other information, will be made soon.

“When the time is right we will give more information on the third fight,” he told World Boxing News.

“We will be making an announcement in the next two weeks.

“When we are ready we will let you know.

“But Deontay is focused on the third fight.

“Most of what is being written now is not worth a response. Deontay wants revenge in the rematch.”

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has recently stated he thinks Wilder should retire if he doesn’t fight Fury again.

“If Deontay Wilder doesn’t take that rematch, he should retire from boxing,” he told iFL TV.

“What’s the point? You’ve been a world heavyweight champion, and now you’ve lost and your bum’s gone.

“You’ve bottled the rematch, and he won’t.

“He’s got more about him than that. But he’s worryingly quiet, isn’t he?”

The targeted date for Wilder vs Fury 3 is December 19 and promoter Bob Arum hopes fans can be present in some capacity at the event.
