Promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight before the end of next year.
A clash between The Gypsy King and AJ is one fans and boxing purists have been clamouring for, but as of now their paths still haven’t crossed.
The opportunity was certainly on the horizon if Joshua had been able to defeat Oleksandr Usyk and retain his heavyweight world titles.
However, Usyk produced a near flawless display and handed the Watford local his second professional loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he became the new champion.
AJ's promoter Hearn was ever so close to making the mega fight for the undisputed heavyweight title happen last summer, until those dreams were scuppered when Fury was ordered to fight Deontay Wilder in their trilogy episode.
The Mancunian defeated Wilder in an epic trilogy fight last October, and he is expected to put his WBC heavyweight belt on the line against Dillian Whyte next.
However, there is a dispute going on between Whyte and the WBC over how much of the purse split he should earn after the governing body had it massively in Fury's favour at 80-20.
The Gypsy King is expected to return at the end of March, and if the fight doesn't come in the form of Whyte, Fury is willing to challenge another heavyweight in a bid to stay active.
Joshua is also preparing for a rematch with Usyk where he will hope to avenge the crushing loss in North London in September..

The pair have taken numerous shots at each other over the years, with Tyson calling Joshua a 'big useless dosser' for losing his belts last year.
But with hopes of a mega British fight appearing to fade into the distance, AJ's promoter Hearn has reassured boxing fans that they will finally get to witness Fury take on Joshua later this year, or early next at the latest.
"I think the AJ Fury fight is still the fight," Hearn said during an appearance on the DAZN Boxing Show.
"I had a guy come up to me today and ask 'when's AJ fighting Fury'.
"I'm kind of like 'well that ship's sailed a little bit, we've got a few things to work out still, and AJ is rematching Usyk'.
"And the guy says 'oh is he? Well when's the Fury fight then?'"
He added: "That’s the fight that people still want to see and will always be there. The bigger the better.
"That fight, I promise you, will happen, whether that’s late this year or early next year. Fury vs. AJ is a dead cert to happen because it’s too big a fight not to."
