Mike Tyson has claimed that he will go head-to-head with bitter rival Lennox Lewis later this year – and his old rival was up for it when asked in February.
The heavyweight icons who famously battled it out back in 2002, could end up taking part in a rematch this September following Tyson’s recent draw against Roy Jones Jr.
Iron Mike hadn’t stepped into the ring for 15 years before that exhibition bout, while Lewis hasn’t fought since beating Vitali Klitschko by technical knock-out back in 2003.
Despite talks over a trilogy with Evander Holyfield, Tyson surprised his supporters this week by announcing former undisputed champion Lewis as his next foe.
“I’m gonna fight Lennox Lewis,” Tyson said this week.
When asked for more details on the bout, Tyson simply added: “September.”
That has seen the comments of Lewis from February resurface: "If the public wanted it then we would probably talk," he TMZ Sports when approached.
Before adding: "I don't know. I don't really have nothing pushing me in the ring right now. People would love to see that fight but I don't know."
Tyson had said in March: ”I just want everybody to know the fight is on with me and Holyfield.
"Holyfield's a humble man I know that and he's a man of God but I'm God's man.
“Listen, I'm going to be successful May 29."
