Tommy Fury mocked for begging Paul not to pull out of fight days before he does

Tommy Fury has been mocked online after pulling out his huge grudge match with Jake Paul – just days after begging the American not to back out himself.

Fury confirmed his decision to withdraw from the blockbuster bout on Monday, blaming a bacterial chest infection and a broken rib.

Explaining the shock news, Fury released a statement which said: "I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and broken rib."

The 22-year-old's absence was met with howls of derision by boxing fans on Twitter, some of whom picked up on what he said to Paul just under a month ago.

Shortly after the fight was confirmed in November, Fury, who is 7-0, said: "I'm going to splatter him. I'm begging Jake Paul, please do not pull out."

Those words have come back to haunt the former Love Island star, who was roundly mocked on Twitter after news broke of his shock withdrawal.

One person wrote: "Tommy Fury looks like a clown now after begging Jake Paul not to pull out of their fight hahahahaha."

Someone else said: "All that shot talk from Tommy Fury begging Paul not to drop out and what happens? Fury drops out."

A third person laughed: "Tommy fury begging Jake Paul not to pull out of the fight only to pull out himself is the funniest thing."

While another bemused fan questioned" "After spending weeks begging Jake Paul the YouTuber not too pull out of the fight, Tommy fury has gone and pulled out himself??? That can’t be true surely

"Fury: “I’m begging jake… PLEASE do not pull out” Also Fury: *Pulls out a week later*. Comedy man, Comedy," said one Twitter user.

Fury's hopes of a new date for his clash with Paul have also been dealt a blow after the American appeared to suggest he does not want to reschedule the fight.

Paul said: "He didn't show up to the press conference then he pulled out of the fight.

"He's done a terrible job of promoting the fight we had; he posted on social media once every other week.

"He's not as hype as everyone thought and I'm p***** off now. I don't like him and I don't want anything to do with the family."
