Isaac Shelby denied at death by shock 33-1 winner Marhaba Ya Sanafi in French 2000 Guineas
Trainer Brian Meehan was ‘frustrated’ after seeing Isaac Shelby denied in the closing stages of Sunday’s Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains by shock winner Marhaba Ya Sanafi.
The Greenham Stakes winner, partnered by Sean Levey, was overhauled in the shadow of the post at Longchamp as the 33-1 winner swept past for a thrilling win in the hands of Derby-winning rider Mickael Barzalona.
The success even surprised his trainer Andreas Schutz, who told Sky Sports Racing: ‘I wasn’t expecting to win, but I was hoping to get a good amount of money because I thought the horse had really improved from his last run.’

Meehan said of Isaac Shelby: ‘I’m a bit frustrated with the pace. In the middle third they went a bit steady for him.
‘But I’m very proud of the horse. It’s good to be at that end of a Classic. There’s more to come.’
There was success for Yorkshire handler Karl Burke when Tom Marquand aboard White Lavender won the Prix de Saint-Georges.
