The Albuquerque Isotopes looked like they were the Rockies in a pre-humidor Coors Field on Monday night, nearly mounting a glorious comeback.
Down 9-4 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Colorado’s Triple-A affiliate hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to make a run against the visiting Las Vegas Aviators.
Right fielder Connor Joe blasted one off reliever Jordan Weems to left center field to bring home first baseman Greg Bird to cut Vegas’ lead to three. On the next pitch, third baseman Taylor Motter hit a solo shot to center off of Weems. Then with a full count, center field Sam Hilliard hit another dinger into left center field to pull Albuquerque to within one.
But that’s as close as they would get.
The Aviators brought in reliever Miguel Romero who got designated hitter Brian Serven to pop out to end the game.
