Dana White reveals UFC could make Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic

Dana White teases that UFC ‘could set up Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic’… but only if ‘Bones’ wants the fight for his heavyweight debut after losing out on Francis Ngannou clash over pay row

  • Jon Jones has been in pay dispute with UFC over fight with Francis Ngannou
  • Dana White is targeting a first title defence for champion against Derrick Lewis
  • But Jones is not completely out of the picture and could face Stipe Miocic
  • UFC president said: ‘But yeah, I mean listen, we could do Jon and Stipe too’

Dana White has revealed that Jon Jones could take on all-time heavyweight great Stipe Miocic in his next fight.

Jones had been angling for a massive clash with the new champion Francis Ngannou but a pay dispute has seen the organisation move on from that idea.

The UFC are now dead set on making Ngannou’s first title defence against Derrick Lewis but Jones has not been left out in the cold.

Stipe Miocic could be the first man Jones faces when he makes his heavyweight debut

White told ESPN: ‘I haven’t [spoken to Jones], but [chief business officer] Hunter Campbell has a great relationship with Jon, and I know those two have been talking.

‘Listen, Jon is one of the best ever. If he wants to fight, we’ll get a fight together for him, but he’s got to want to do it.’

He continued: ‘Well, a lot of people didn’t think (Miocic) was the heavyweight GOAT (greatest of all time). He is the heavyweight GOAT. He is, the guy is.

‘He’s put in the work and done all the things you need to be the heavyweight GOAT.

‘He is (the GOAT), that’s a fact. And I don’t know, we’ll see what’s next. I like that he’s fired up and wants to fight again. But yeah, I mean listen, we could do Jon and Stipe too.’

White previously claimed that Jones was demanding £20million to fight Ngannou, a number the fighter himself flatly denied asking for.

Shortly after that news broke, ‘Bones’ severed ties with his management team, suggesting there might be some progress made now with negotiations.

Miocic vs Jones would be a statement debut at heavyweight for the former light-heavyweight champion.

Miocic has reigned supreme for years, despite one loss to Daniel Cormier, before Ngannou exacted revenge with a KO win to take the belt earlier this year.

The new champion has taken some time off recently to parade his title around his native Cameroon and no time frame is known about when these two possible heavyweight showdowns will take place.
