Daniel Cormier reveals when he wants to fight Brock Lesnar

Daniel Cormier wants to fight Brock Lesnar as soon as January.

The UFC heavyweight champion must first defend his title against Derrick Lewis in New York on Saturday night.

But if he comes through unscathed, Cormier is keen to take on Lesnar at UFC 233.

The pair came face to face in July in the aftermath of Cormier’s win over Stipe Miocic which saw him crowned heavyweight champion.

Lesnar entered the Octagon to confront the champion – and a fight appeared inevitable.

But Cormier will instead take on Lewis in a hastily-arranged defence which headlines at Madison Square Garden.

And the champion said: "“January 26 in Anaheim, is Brock eligible by then?

"He looks smaller on WWE right now, you see his face? He looks tiny. Yeah, maybe on January 26. I think I have a wrestling tournament that weekend, but we will see.

"I like Brock, I really do. Brock just isn’t going to take no s***. Brock isn’t going to mess around with you."

Lesnar has not fought in the UFC since his win over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 last year.

That result was later changed to a no contest after the WWE star was banned for failing a drugs test.

He re-entered the drug testing pool in July and is eligible to compete from January 8.

Cormier, meanwhile, believes the fight will be straightforward, should it happen.

"Just to be standing opposite of him in an Octagon is going to be insane. But once that bell rings, once that bell rings and they say fight, I’m gonna kill him," he told SiriusXM. "Like he’s going to be completely in over his head.

"Brock Lesnar is allegedly supposed to be in the building on Saturday. If Brock Lesnar comes into that octagon on Saturday, I’m slapping him. I’m not playing anymore this time.

"No pushing and jawing. He better not come into my octagon this weekend. I’m going to do it. I’ll definitely do it. I’m gonna smack him right in his face. I’m smacking him. I owe him one."
