Boris Johnson announces new national lockdown
Fishing hasn’t stopped throughout the tier 3 and tier 4 restrictions, although there were some restrictions in place. These are the latest rules around fishing in the new national lockdown.
Everyone has been allowed to go fishing regardless of what tier they were placed in.
There were, however, some general rules and regulations that anglers had to follow.
All anglers had to stick to the Rule of Six, and that should only be in outdoor spaces.
But the latest rules and regulations will be changing after the introduction of a new national lockdown.
Can I go fishing in a lockdown?
The Government still hasn’t published what the new lockdown means for fishing.
But, fishing hasn’t previously stopped during previous lockdowns.
Unlike other outdoor recreational activities, including golf and tennis, the Government never asked fisheries to close.
The Government has made it clear that visiting parks and gardens for outdoor recreation was a legitimate reason for being outside.

Anglers that did manage to go fishing in lockdown were advised to stick to the Rule of Two, however.
Fishing was also banned with anybody outside of your own household or support bubble, except for one other individual.
The full lockdown guidance will be published on Tuesday morning.
The Angling Trust told recreational fishers that it would be assessing the guidance in the coming hours.
“We need to await tomorrow’s publication of the regulations necessary to enact this evening’s announcement on a national lockdown by the Prime Minister,” the Angling Trust wrote on Facebook.
“We will take professional advice and carefully review what they mean for angling and then publish guidelines for anglers, clubs, fisheries and all associated with our industry.
“We have spent today lobbying Cabinet members for outdoor recreational activities to remain specifically permitted and are disappointed that this may not be the case.
“We will publish an update here and on the Covid section of our website. We will be extremely busy working on this and request that at this stage you do not contact with individual questions. Thank you.”
Elite sport is allowed to continue throughout the Covid lockdown, however.
That means Premier League, EFL and SPFL football will be continuing for the foreseeable.
Outdoor exercise is being limited to members of the public, with group activities banned.
You should only be leaving your house for exercise once per day.
