Aaron Rodgers has been slammed in a brutal comparison to NBA star LeBron James ahead of Wednesday’s 1pm ET (5pm GMT) interview on The Pat McAfee Show with a potential NFL announcement on the cards. Rodgers is weighing up retirement, joining the New York Jets or returning to the Green Bay Packers for a 19th season.
However, Rodgers’ inability to come to a decision has drawn criticism, with some pundits accusing the quarterback of “holding two franchises hostage”. Rodgers will appear on The Pat McAfee Show with speculation that an announcement on his future in the NFL could finally arrive.
But Rodgers’ expected appearance has seen him slammed in several quarters with one brutal claim comparing him to NBA icon James, who in 2010 took part in a TV special called ‘The Decision’, which saw him announce that he would be signing with the Miami Heat instead of returning to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. James caught heat for the interview, and was perceived as an “attention-seeking cry baby” by some despite being a free agent – something Rodgers isn’t.
“This man REALLY loves this attention,” Enquirer journalist David Wysong tweeted. “If Aaron Rodgers announces his decision on Pat McAfee’s show, y’all better have the same energy you had toward LeBron when he took his talents to South Beach.”

Rodgers has left the Jets in a tight spot. They are essentially either Rodgers or bust, having already seen a number of free agent quarterbacks sign with other teams. He has also reportedly given the Jets a four-man wishlist of free agents – with Odell Beckham Jr the eye-catching inclusion.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini tweeted: “Aaron Rodgers has provided the NY Jets with a wish-list of free agents he would like them to target and acquire, per sources. It includes Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Marcedes Lewis and … Odell Beckham Jr.”

Free agent Beckham Jr is reportedly demanding $20million (£16.4m) after holding a private workout with 12 NFL teams in attendance ahead of his anticipated return from a knee injury for the 2023 season. The wide receiver has been a free agent ever since being released by the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 following the ACL injury he suffered in Super Bowl LVI – the second such injury of his career.
Beckham Jr held an open workout last Friday in Arizona hoping to put himself back in the shop window. Beckham Jr didn’t feature in the 2022 season.
