‘Beyond disgusting’: Star’s ugly ‘assault’

The Cleveland Browns have been the talk of the NFL this season for all the wrong reasons and even when they were on the cusp of victory, the win is going to be plagued for an incredibly ugly scene.

In the dying seconds of their 21-7 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Browns defensive player Myles Garrett snapped and went after Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.

Steelers players attempted to fight off Garrett but his attack couldn’t be stopped as he ripped the helmet off the head of Rudolph before cracking him on top of the head with it.

As Rudolph looked to the officials in disbelief he was blindsided by another Browns defender in a truly ugly scene for the team.

“That is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on a professional sports field,” ESPN commentator Joe Buck said.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was about the horrific scenes immediately after the win and put the blowtorch onto Garrett.

“That’s inexcusable … I don’t care rivalry or not we can’t do that. That’s just endangering the other team. That’s inexcusable. He knows that,” Mayfield said.

Rudolph was asked about the play straight away after stepping up to the podium post-game.

“I thought it was pretty cowardly and bush league,” he said.

San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk reacted to the Garrett attack on social media and proclaimed: “Myles Garrett should not be allowed to play another snap this season”.

Fans watching on simply couldn’t believe what they were seeing unfold in front of their eyes and many called for a lengthy suspension to be handed to Garrett.

Assault.

Frankly, Garret could be arrested for assault. #Browns #TNF

Myles Garrett might have just irreversibly changed his career forever. He could be done for the year, and it wouldn’t be an overreaction.

1. Why am I still watching this game?

2. Enjoy your long, deserved suspension, Myles Garrett. What a punk move. Get out of here.

Myles Garrett should be suspended for the rest of the season.

That’s assault, brother. #TNF

Myles Garrett should not play another down this season.

Myles Garrett should be suspended the rest of the season and into next as well. That was beyond disgusting and a disgrace to the #NFL. The definition of pure trash.

Freddie Kitchens, Browns coach, expressed his disappointment in the actions of his star defender in his post-game press conference.

“I’m embarrassed. Myles is embarrassed … I’ve never seen that in my life,” Kitchens said.

“Myles is very upset about it.

“We had 5 seconds left in the game … the biggest win for this team in a long time…never beat Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the same season since 1999 and now we have to talk about this.

“While I’m the head coach here, that’s not going to be acceptable in any form or fashion.”
