In the same stadium where they had lost the Super Bowl two years prior, Patrick Mahomes put on a performance that was worthy of its own title.
Mahomes threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns while the Chiefs put up a total of 417 yards of offense in their 41-31 demolition of the Buccaneers.
The tone for the Chiefs win was set early on in the second quarter – with Kansas City already up 14-3. Mahomes faked a handoff to his fullback and rolled right, running toward the end zone.
With linebacker Devin White in between him and a touchdown, he spun out of the way, looked up and flicked the ball through the air into the waiting arms of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire who caught it for the score.
In one of the best plays of the night, Mahomes ran toward the end zone, executing this spin move to avoid being tackled by Buccaneers linebacker Devin White

‘I was able to use my speed, well a little bit of speed, to get around the edge there,’ Mahomes said after the game, breaking the play down.
‘And then I was going to run for it, and they kind of flew around, and then I realized I wasn’t going to make it, and I saw Clyde, so I just kind of flicked it up to him.
‘When I spun… I kind of, I think the spin made me kind of decide to throw it again because I knew once I spun that I wasn’t going to have the speed to get in (the end zone).
Before that, I was thinking about getting to the pylon, but once I spun, I realized that Clyde was open.’
In addition to that touchdown catch, Edwards-Helaire ran the ball 19 times for 92 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Even Mahomes’ teammates were stunned, in spite of seeing the Texas Tech product perform similar miracles in the past.
‘The NFL hasn’t seen anything like Mahomes — I promise you that,’ tight end Travis Kelce said.
‘You saw it today — he’s the Houdini of our era. The guy just finds ways to make plays throughout the game — big-time third down, big-time goal line plays [and] just willing our team to the end zone — willing our team to win. That’s our ultimate leader, man.’
While Mahomes was able to use some magic to down Tom Brady and the Bucs at home, he says it wasn’t planned and his improvisational skills are used solely for the purposes of victory.
Mahomes was able to beat Tom Brady, who won playoff games over the Chiefs with both the Buccaneers and Patriots over the course of his illustrious career
‘I just try to win, man,’ Mahomes said. ‘At the end of the day that’s what I try to do. It’s not like I’m planning these things where I’m throwing sidearm or whatever it is, spinning, running around.
‘I always say, I’m a competitor, I’m going to find whatever way I can do to make our team have success. Today was a spin and a little, I don’t know, a basketball shot that ended up a touchdown.’
