With six teams, including the Eagles and Jaguars, on bye and several normal starting D/STs facing tough matchups, our Week 9 fantasy defense rankings are the definition of thin. You can hit the waiver wire for a few one-week pickups, but chances are your going to have to grit your teeth and take a chance with a mediocre or bad matchup on paper.
The bye weeks not only take out good defenses, but they also take away good matchups. There will be no Cardinals, Giants, or Jaguars for D/STs to beat up on. With two of the worst D/STs facing off in favorable matchups on Thursday (Raiders @ 49ers), that further shallows the pool unless you’re willing to use one of those units. The Rams (@ Saints), Vikings (vs. Lions), Ravens (vs. Steelers) and Browns (vs. Chiefs) all have brutal matchups, and “reliable” streamers like the Lions(@ Vikings), Steelers (@ Ravens), and Patriots (vs. Packers) aren’t any better.
Week 9 Rankings:
Quarterback | Running Back | Wide Receiver | Tight End | Kicker
The top pickups look to be Miami (vs. Jets), fresh off a poor showing last Thursday in Houston, Carolina (vs. Bucs), and Dallas (vs. Titans). The Chiefs (@ Browns) are also a sneaky streamer given the matchup, though Kansas City’s defense usually struggles more on the road while Cleveland’s offense is usually better at home.
Note: We’ll be updating our D/ST rankings and adding analysis throughout the week, so check back often.
