The challenging offseason for Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard continued Tuesday when the club announced it was placing him on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
The list is for players who either test positive or have been quarantined after being in close contact with an infected person or persons. The NFL does not distinguish between the two in its announcements.
Howard had been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list July 28.
He played only five games last season after suffering a knee injury and going on injured reserve Oct. 30.
Howard has played 40 of a possible 64 games since being drafted in the second round in 2016.
He ranked 55th on the list of the NFL’s top 100 players in 2019 and was the Dolphins’ MVP in 2018.
The Dolphins hope to have a healthy Howard lining up opposite Byron Jones at cornerback this season.
