Michigan State fans plan chant to honor Tyler Trent, Purdue fan fighting cancer, at game

Michigan State students plan to chat "Cancer Sucks" during the team's game against Purdue on Saturday to honor Boilermakers fan Tyler Trent, who is fighting bone cancer for a third time.

Trent's story went nationwide last week with Tom Rinaldi's piece on ESPN's "College GameDay," and only grew later in the night when Purdue demolished No. 2 Ohio State, 49-20. Trent was both in the locker room and at the news conference following the game.

After every kickoff last week, Purdue fans yelled "Oooohhhhh Cancer Sucks!" instead of their traditional cheer, which is, "Ooooohhhhhh IU Sucks!" (There's perhaps a more tactful way to describe that, but also maybe not.)

And this week, there has been a ground movement on social media for Michigan State fans to scream "Cancer Sucks" instead of the usual "Go State" on kickoffs.

The request was started by Matt Sheehan of "The Only Colors," Michigan State's SB Nation site. Sheehan's push reached both Trent and ESPN's Scott Van Pelt, who had Trent on "SportsCenter" on Wednesday night. The two discussed myriad topics, including what Michigan State had in store for Trent on Saturday.
