‘Real class’: NFL world lauds Tom Brady’s selfless act

Tom Brady has taken the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all the way to the Super Bowl but he does not want to hog the spotlight – and he proved it post-game.

Bruce Arians said it “only took one man” to give Tampa the “belief” they needed to go so far.

Now that man has the chance to go one step further in his first year with a new team.

NFL: Tom Brady wasn’t interested in hogging the spot light after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secured a Super Bowl berth.

All the focus in the lead up to the Super Bowl will be on Brady and the superstar quarterback was the first invited to speak on the stage post-game about his role in the 31-26 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Brady only gave two answers though before he selflessly asked to pass the microphone on.

“Today was a great team effort,” said Brady, diverting attention away from himself at the start.

“We played sporadically a little bit but the defense came up huge. We’re going to need it again in a couple weeks.

“I know it’s a big game coming up but we get to enjoy this for a little bit.

“It’s a great football team, they were playing well all season and to beat them at home – there were 9,000 fans – it felt like a little bit more than 9,000. Just great to get a road win and now we have a home game. Who would have thought we’d have a home Super Bowl but we did it.”

Brady was then prompted for another question but the 43-year old quickly interrupted to make a special request.

“Let’s bring someone else up here,” he said, with Arians called on to his pleasure.

Later Brady again proved his class, telling media: “I don’t think about what it means for me, I think about what it means for everybody else.”

Hats off to @TomBrady

Continues to push the limits of what’s possible, by being an elite competitor & selfless leader-

I’m not necessarily saying I like Tom Brady or not, but it was a real class act of him to tell the reporters to turn the attention to his other teammates when they were only focusing on him in the post game interviews

Tom Brady – what a class guy! Was asked what his vision was going to TB. He didn’t take the bait & just talked about this game and how the defense came up big today. Then he’s asked a 2nd question. He answers it quickly & then says “bring some other guys up here.” @TomBrady

The Bucs had not been to a Super Bowl in 18 years.

Brady took a huge risk moving from the familiarity under Bill Belichick but it is clearly paying off, with the ultimate prize waiting.

He completed 20 of 36 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns in the five-point win.

Off to his 10th Super Bowl, Brady also took the chance to celebrate with his son in a heartwarming moment.

“Can I say hi to my son?,” he called out into the stands before Brady jumping the fence to hug him.

Brady then laughed: “Love you kiddo. How ’bout that?”

The 43-year old had already shared a sweet post-game moment the week prior when he played catch with Drew Brees’ son.
