The Texans are moving on from a veteran defensive back.
Houston is releasing cornerback Aaron Colvin, according to multiple reports, including one from ESPN. The 27-year-old signed a four-year, $34 million contract with the team last offseason and has $7.5 million guaranteed this year, the report notes.
Colvin struggled in his first season with the Texans and was picked apart in the team’s 30-28 Week 1 loss to the Saints. He allowed eight receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown in coverage on nine targets — according to NFL Research — as New Orleans eventually rallied for the win.
“He’s a great player,” Colvin said of Saints quarterback Drew Brees (via the Houston Chronicle). “He did what he needed to do. We didn’t, especially myself. That’s what it is.”
