An F1 presenter made a huge Timo Werner gaffe while interviewing the Chelsea star at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The German has been enjoying time away from football after his country were knocked out of Euro 2020 by England in the round-of-16.

And it saw him drop by at the latest race in the Drivers' Championship at the Red Bull Ring in Styria.

But he was made to suffer an awkward moment when collared for an interview by broadcasters Sky Sports.

The grid reporter – working for the channel that is the primary broadcaster of Chelsea's Premier League games – says: "I've got Timo Werner here.

"Chelsea and Germany's goalkeeper. How are you? Good to have you with us!"

While Werner politely carries on the interview, it did not take fans long to realise the reporter had got his position wrong.

The Blues' regular goalkeeper this season has been Edouard Mendy, who arrived last summer from Rennes.

While Germany captain Manuel Neuer has been between the posts for his country 104 times.

How many goals do you think Timo Werner will score next season? Let us know in the comments section.

"Since when did Timo Werner become a goalkeeper," one viewer said as the graphic made the awkward correction.

Another sarcastically added: "Bit of a positional change for Werner next season."

While a rival took a cheeky dig at Werner's scoring struggles from his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, with: "To be fair, Werner is great at keeping the ball out of the net."

And a fourth added: "Bloke's missed so many chances people are starting to think he’s trying to stop goals going in."

Werner was actually Chelsea's joint-top scorer last season, netting 12 times alongside Tammy Abraham.

But Thomas Tuchel, who guided the club to Champions League glory, is hunting top forward Erling Haaland.

The German will be watching in Austria as Lewis Hamilton attempts to close the gap on Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
