McLaren star Daniel Ricciardo once revealed he was forced to quit a sex ban before races after realising that getting intimate with his partner actually saw him perform better on a Formula 1 circuit.
Ricciardo currently sits 13th in the Drivers’ Championship with 19 points to his name amid a difficult season with McLaren. The Australian is set to leave the team at the end of the season, with compatriot Oscar Piastri stepping into his seat.
It means Ricciardo’s future is currently up in the air, but one thing is for sure: we know what he’ll be up to before this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The 33-year-old admitted he used to abstain from sexual activity before Grands Prix until changing his mind a few years ago.

He has since changed his view on superstitions, insisting they are excuses for not performing well. Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Ricciardo said: “I used to, but not anymore.
“I went against my rules obviously once and I was probably even better on Sunday, so it’s all good. It’s easy to have a lack of accountability if you’ve got a superstition.
“It’s kind of like an excuse for something to go wrong. I might brush off the reality of why I had a bad race because I didn’t put my sock on the right way.
“I don’t like it. If that was my tradition and I forgot to do it and I’m jumping in a car that’s doing 200 miles an hour, is that good for my headspace?
“You can’t have anything like that creeping in.”
Do you think Daniel Ricciardo will get a seat for 2023? Let us know in the comments section.
Ricciardo made his F1 debut in 2011 at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and picked up his first win three years later in Canada. He has since claimed eight race victories, with the last coming at Monza 12 months ago.
And the Australian admitted on the same podcast that he must be selfish in order to find success in F1. Since the interview, Ricciardo has begun dating actor Heidi Berger, sharing several images of the duo looking happy.
When asked about his personal life on the show, Ricciardo added: “It is difficult. You do have to shut things out along the way and that is people and at times relationships. It’s finding that balance.
“I know some drivers have a wife and kids and I’m like ‘how do you do this with a family?’ Dedicating everything you can to the sport but also dedicating time to your family. I’m not there yet, I don’t know how I could manage that.
“I’m still in the moment of just trying to get the most out of me and I think what I’m doing is working so I’m going to keep going down that path. I’ll wait a while for kids I think.”
