Michael Schumacher is still among the top 10 richest athletes in the world despite having to spend a vast amount of his fortune on medical treatments recently.
It's been over eight years since the legendary Formula One suffered a serious brain injury after hitting his head on rock during a skiing trip with his family in the French Alps.
The precise nature of Schumacher's condition has been hidden from the public, but various reports claim that he remains paralysed and barely able to move or communicate properly.
After emerging from a medically induced coma six months after the accident, Schumacher has been rehabilitating in his home in Switzerland.
It's understood his family have spared no expense in doing all they can to aid his recovery, and according Wealthy Gorilla – who compiled data from Forbes and Celebrity Net Worth – he's still among the top 10 richest athletes on the planet.
Basketball legend Michael Jordan is currently considered the world's wealthiest athlete with a reported net worth of $2.2 billion (£1.6 billion).
Jordan is not only one of the NBA's most famous and successful players, but his Air Jordan clothing brand is among the widespread in all of sport.
WWE owner Vince McMahon follows closely behind in second, with a net worth of $1.6 billion (£1.18 billion) following 20-year stranglehold on the professional wrestling industry in the US.
In third is Ion Tiriac – a Romanian former tennis and ice hockey player who has made fortunes in business since retiring from professional sport – followed by Olympic dressage rider Anna Kasprzak, and golf legend Tiger Woods, to round off the top five.
