Josh Reaume, a driver and team owner in the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR on Tuesday for an insensitive social media post.
NASCAR released a statement indicating Reaume violated Sections 12.1 and 12.8.1.e of its rule book without disclosing the exact nature of the infraction.
The pertinent rule book sections include bans on “public statement and/or communication that criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.”
Reaume, 30, is the co-owner of the Reaume Brothers Racing team and drives the No. 00 car in the NASCAR Truck Series. Reaume also participated twice in the Xfinity Series this year.
This is the third notable suspension NASCAR has levied this season in response to insensitivity toward a particular group of people. Cup Series driver Kyle Larson was suspended indefinitely after saying the N-word when talking to fellow drivers during an iRacing competition on a virtual track on April 12. Larson has since been reinstated and will be eligible to return to the Cup Series on Jan. 1, 2021. He will drive for Hendrick Motorsports in the No. 5 car next year.
Xfinity Series driver Mike Wallace was also supsended indefinitely on Sept. 10 for a social media post that violated NASCAR’s policies. An hour before NASCAR announced his suspension, Wallace posted the following on Facebook:
“You know as I fly across the United States today I’m ready various people’s political views and I have to say a famous four star Military General that I spent time with in the MidEast told me Mike let me give you some advice don’t ever get in a conversation about politics or religion unless you are really smart. I said why do you say that comment His response it’s like being balanced on a single edge razor blade if you slip you will get cut!
Think about that before we all make foolish uneducated post! Moral of this story is most of use just repeat what we have heard we really don’t know.
Have a great positive day!”
Reaume hadn’t publicly responded to his suspension as of Tuesday night.
