NASCAR’s Tony Stewart, NHRA’s Leah Pruett announce engagement

Retired NASCAR driver and team owner Tony Stewart and drag racer Leah Pruett announced their engagement Thursday night in a pair of social media posts.

Stewart, who last raced in the 2016 NASCAR season, praised Pruett in an Instagram post that announced the engagement.

"So excited to spend the rest of my life with a truly amazing woman," Stewart, 49, wrote. "She’s motivated, hard working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I’ve ever known. Love you babe."

Pruett, 32, also shared the news in a corresponding Instagram post. The National Hot Rod Association Top Fuel racer said the photos both used in their announcement were from the Tour de Florida event as they were both looking at hot rods.

"The undeniable level of love, happiness, and soulfulness we have together is monumental," Pruett wrote. "He might run in circles, but is the straightest shooter and the salt of this earth… looking forward to a lifetime of sunrises and sunsets that the Lord has gifted us together. Love you babe!"

The couple began dating last year early in the pandemic, after Pruett invited Stewart to stay in Lake Havasu in Arizona for four days with other friends. Stewart, who co-owns the Stewart-Haas Racing NASCAR team, stayed for four months and both supported each other's careers as the racing calendar resumed through the COVID-19 pandemic.

"My personal life is the best it's ever been, by far," Stewart said in January. "She gets me. And I enjoy going to her events and being the one doing the supporting. I mean, if she wanted me to support her at basket-weaving competitions I probably wouldn't enjoy it, but I am very happy with this relationship and where my life is right now."
