Premiership star Ellis Genge has asked his social media followers for help identifying two thieves after the England international witnessed his Range Rover being robbed in London.
The Leicester Tigers captain took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to share footage of the incident, which saw the swindlers make off with a rucksack that was in the car.
Genge, 26, appeared to have been recording the act first-hand as it unfolded in broad daylight, with the robbers requiring just a few seconds to complete the dastardly deed.
Two masked men are seen riding up to the Range Rover before one—decked out in all black—smashes through the rear window to retrieve the blue backpack in question.
The pair then pedal away with their prize, with no sign that any bystanders were the wiser as to what had just happened.
Genge concluded the post with an appeal for help tracking down the culprits, although he wasn’t holding out much hope for success.
“Broad daylight my car just been done. Middle of Berkeley Square London. Probably no chance but if you do see them about, do me a favour,” he added, signing off with emojis of a telephone and a police officer.
Bristol-born Genge may not be holding his breath for the pair to be located, though social media sleuths have a habit of overcoming the odds in these situations.
While one of the recorded culprits wore all black and showed few distinguishable features, his white accomplice in grey shorts is more easily identifiable.
The thief responsible for grabbing the goods appeared to be using a window-breaking tool of some sort, such was the speed with which he was able to get in and snatch the bag.
The burglary will hardly help Genge in his preparations for the 2021/22 campaign, in which he will captain Leicester for the first time after being named the club’s new skipper.
Capped 29 times for his country, Genge has described it as an honour to take over from Tom Youngs in the armband, with his tenure set to begin against the Exeter Chiefs.
Leicester open their 2021/22 Premiership campaign at home to last season’s runners-up on Saturday, September 18, having finished sixth in the table last term.
Genge will captain the Tigers when they host the Scarlets in their final pre-season friendly on Thursday, kicking off at 7pm at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
