Paris Saint-Germain are happy to let Georginio Wijnaldum leave this January on loan with plenty of interest from the Premier League. But where could the Dutchman end up?

It has not been a happy start in Paris after swapping life on Mersey for the Seine following the expiration of his Liverpool contract last summer.

The 31-year-old left the Reds last year after spending five years with the club, winning the Premier League and the Champions League along the way.

Despite Jurgen Klopp being desperate to keep hold of him, the Dutchman wanted to experience a new challenge in his career.

He signed for PSG on a free transfer but it has not strictly to plan so far and he has completed 90 minutes just three times in Ligue 1.

According to Sky Sports, Mauricio Pochettino could be happy to see the midfielder leave on loan – so where could he go?

The most likely destination for Wijnaldum is Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta desperate to bolster his midfield options.

Granit Xhaka has had a season to forget with form and injuries while Thomas Partey is struggling with the intensity of the Premier League.

That leaves rookie option Albert Sambi Lokonga or dropping Martin Odegaard deeper into midfield while Wijnaldum would be a welcome addition to Arsenal’s inexperienced side.

While not usually ones to entertain the loan market, Thomas Tuchel might have his hand forced in January with a growing list of injuries.

Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are all unavailable and it has proved detrimental with defender Reece James being forced to play there most recently.

The results have been catastrophic with six goals shipped in two matches while Wijnaldum has been there and done that for a side looking to win the Premier League.

Another side with real problems is Tottenham, where a Covid breakout has wrecked havoc with Antonio Conte only having 10 fit players.

While that might be sorted by the time January comes around, that does not mean that Spurs have a squad that needs serious investment.

Whether Conte has been promised signings or not in the winter transfer window remains to be seen but the arrival of Wijnaldum would be a massive boost to the Italian.

Manchester United

If there is one area of the pitch where United would love to improve, it would be in central midfield.

Wijnaldum possesses the exact attributes Ralf Rangnick would be desperate to have in that position while the Dutchman has already worked well with one of his disciples in Jurgen Klopp.

It remains to be seen how the German coach will work with the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek but having Wijnaldum would be a safe option to bring in to allow others time to get used to the new tactics.
