Alexandre Lacazette hails Mikel Arteta for Arsenal tactical change

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has hailed Mikel Arteta for a recent tactical change he has made.

The Gunners have picked up back-to-back wins over the festive period, and seem to be on the rise again after an awful start to the season.

Many are hoping that they have turned the corner on their miserable form following the victories over Chelsea and Brighton.

And Gunners striker Lacazette says he thinks the reason for their upturn in results has been a tactical tweak by Arteta to allow for more attacking players to bomb on.

"The coach puts me as a No.9, but more with a role to play for my team-mates and challenge a lot," Lacazette told RMC.

"It is not really a 10’s position, nor an old-fashioned No.9 that has to stay ahead and score goals.

"He knows my qualities and knows that I like to play short and help my team-mates with the development of play.

"Now we’re four behind and three midfielders. It’s much easier, because before we lacked attacking players.

"This tactical change is also good for us…"

Lacazette scored the winning goal against Brighton almost immediately after coming on off the bench.

And he admits that the strike even took him by surprise, but insists that things start going your way when you’re winning again.

"It never happened to me. After the match, I was told that I had scored after 21 seconds," he added. "I was a little surprised, but it’s true that everything went quickly.

"When the team lost confidence, it was also my case. I had few situations in match, only one per game. I had to make it happen, and that’s what I didn’t do.

"In the game, it was not exceptional either. Since then, we have regained confidence, me too with the matches of Europa League who helped me."
