Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Brighton defender Ben White this summer. However, instead of splashing out on a deal set to be worth over £50million, the Gunners have an ideal alternative staring them in the face.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer would not only save Arsenal money but also solve a few problem areas in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

After PSG’s double swoop for Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Ramos, Kehrer’s future at the club has been thrown into doubt.

Arsenal have been linked with the 24-year-old already this summer, with Foot Mercato claiming the club has made an approach.

PSG are likely willing to listen to offers this summer, with Kehrer now further down Mauricio Pochettinho’s pecking order.

Former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel heaped praise on the German star during his time at the club.

The current Chelsea boss lauded Kehrer’s versatility, stating that he can play anywhere across the back and even in defensive midfield.

“Thilo is a very committed player, very professional,” Tuchel told the official club website.

“I like his personality. He already has a certain maturity as he’s captain of Germany’s under-21 side.

“He’s quick, able to play in any of the four positions at the back, is two-footed, and can even play as a defensive midfielder.

“He’s the sort of player any coach would like to have.”

Mikel Arteta is leading a rebuild at the Emirates Stadium and seemingly doesn’t fit Hector Bellerin into his long-term plans.

As well as a replacement right-back, Arsenal are also reportedly pursuing a centre-back – White – and a midfield partner for Thomas Partey.

With Kehrer capable of playing in all three positions, it’d come as no shock whatsoever to discover Arsenal’s rumoured interest to be concrete.

He would likely act as Gabriel’s centre-back partner as part of a back four while also covering three other positions.

With PSG spending £33m on Kehrer in 2018 and his current deal expiring in two years, he wouldn’t exactly be available for a cut-price, but he’s more feasible than White.

However, a player of Kehrer’s age and versatility could become invaluable in the early stages of Arteta’s rebuild in north London.

This isn’t to say Arsenal should sign the German ace and then forget about the right-back position.

The Gunners will likely want an attacking-minded player capable of providing support down the wing.

But Kehrer would bring Champions League experience and a winning pedigree that simply isn’t in Arteta’s current defensive ranks.
