Arsenal chief Vinai Venkatesham has debunked a fan transfer theory over agent Kia Joorabchian.
The Gunners have increased their Portuguese and Brazilian roster this summer, with Willian joining the likes of David Luiz and Cedric Soares at the Emirates Stadium.
And the man behind it has been agent Joorabchian, leading fans to believe he has a major role at the north London side.
But Venkatesham, who was promoted from managing director to chief executive last Thursday, has dismissed the claims.
Speaking to TeamTalk, he said: “I see, read and absorb a lot of what is being said about how we work with agents.
“We don’t select players based on the identity of their agent.
“We select players based on the position we need to strengthen and the characteristics we are looking for in a player and if the player is out there who meets those characteristics.
“Who the agent is comes out at the end, once we have decided who the player is. We are not signing players based on the identity of the agent. That would be a crazy strategy.”
Joorabchian’s latest client to arrive at Arsenal, Willian, signed on a three-year deal believed to be worth £220,000 a week from London rivals Chelsea.
And the 49-year-old explained what enticed the forward to make the switch from Frank Lampard’s side.
“With Willian, there’s no secret he wanted a three-year contract, but the Mikel Arteta project was just incredible,” he told talkSPORT.

“He was very much wooed by Mikel and [technical director] Edu, and what Mikel presented to him and the way he wants to play football and the way he wants to continue and the success he wants to bring to Arsenal, made the difference.
“That’s what he said and that’s exactly what it was.”
It comes as Willian is anticipated to be joined by two more new players in north London as Mikel Arteta became first-team manager.
Willian is expected to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners against Fulham on Saturday.
