Arsenal target Christopher Nkunku is on the ‘out list’ as RB Leipzig, as Mikel Arteta looks to put his summer transfer plans in motion. After the 1-1 first-leg draw with Slavia Prague, the Gunners’ Europa League hopes remain in the balance.

That combined with a miserable season in the Premier League, means Arteta is likely ot be active in the summer transfer window.

Much of January surrounded offloading players that the Spaniard had deemed surplus to requirements.

That saw the likes of Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac all move, with the latter joining Schalke on loan.

However, the Arsenal boss has still claimed that the side is ‘very far’ away from being one in his image, with more moves already in the pipeline for the end of the season.

“We are planning everything for the summer, the same with the board, with [chief executive] Vinai [Venkatesham], with [non-executive director] Tim [Lewis], and with the owners,” Arteta told Sky Sports last month.

“We are very clear on how we want to do it.

“When you have to change 10 or 12 things in one window [as in January] it’s a lot, and that has some consequences with what has happened in previous months and what is going to happen in the following months.

“We still have quite a lot of things to do, but we will get to the point, hopefully, where it’s just ticking off a few things and the stability is there, because you need that as well to be consistent and be competitive.”

One player that has been linked with a potential move to the Emirates is Leipzig’s attacking midfielder Nkunku.

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery was believed to have held an interest in the Frenchman, when he swapped Paris Saint-Germain for the Bundesliga two years ago.

And now the player is reportedly disgruntled at a lack of playing time and could seek a move away from the club, according to reports.

Earlier this week, SportBILD via Sport Witness carried a report that Arsenal were looking into a possible move for the 23-year-old.

And now BILD transfer expert Christian Falk has added extra context on their interest, claiming that Nkunku would see a move to North London as a definite upgrade.

Despite that, Falk believes a deal could be difficult to complete, due to the German outfit’s strong bargaining position.

He said: “Leipzig is a bit shaken at the moment, and so Nkunku is also on the out list.

“I would say it will be difficult because he is tied down (his contract runs until 2024) and has a €40 million market value.

“There are, of course, alternatives, Julian Draxler, who is available on a free transfer, or Julian Brandt, who is on the cut list at Dortmund.

“They are a bit easier to achieve, but from a quality point, they would, of course, be a club that would definitely be an upgrade for him.”
