Arsenal fans lay blame with ‘con’ in build up to Runar Alex Runarsson mistake

Arsenal fans have slammed defender Sead Kolasinac after his role in a goal for Manchester City came to light on Twitter.

The Gunners were thumped 4-1 by City on Tuesday night as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage.

But there was one forgettable moment in particular in which goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson let a straight forward save slip through his hands and into the back of the net.

The free kick from Riyad Mahrez appeared to be straight at Runarsson on the left-hand side of the goal, but the Iceland international could only parry it into the side netting of his own goal.

However, replays have since shown that Runarsson may not have been entirely at fault as Arsenal defender Kolasinac moved out of the way of the ball as it hurtled towards goal.

Tweeting a video which clearly showed that happening, one fan wrote: “Attention is on Rúnarsson but what is Kolasinac doing? Actually just stands aside.”

The clip divided some fans, but one was just as scathing, labelling the Bosnian a “con”.

Fan Clive replied: “He fought off robbers with knives yet he has checked out of a club that pays him.

“Allowed himself to be moved so easily – I’m begging people don’t be conned by these players.

“Ok manager makes mistakes – he is ultimately responsible. But we know the real truth.”

And another slammed: “Allows someone half his size to gently push him out the way.”

Others defended Kolasinac though, insisting there is no defence for an error of that magnitude.

“Whatever he does please don’t take focus away from some of the worst goalkeeping I have ever seen,” one fan replied. “Inexcusable. Even with Kola moving to the side thats straight at him, no power or swerve, perfect height. It’s bread and butter.”

As a second pointed out: “He ducked cause its a standard save any deflection at this range means a goal.”
