Arsenal star Ben White will not be concerned after being left out of the England squad, claims Ray Parlour. The Gunners legend reckons there may have been a falling out between the defender and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate at the World Cup in Qatar.

White was left out of the squad Southgate named on Thursday for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine. The 25-year-old has been in fine form for Premier League leaders Arsenal.

His early season performances earned him a spot on the plane to Qatar in November. However, he left the tournament early due to personal reasons.

Reports after claimed White had a disagreement with assistant coach Steve Holland, though Southgate seemed to play that down in the days after. But Parlour believes something must have happened between White and Southgate and doesn’t think he will get selected for his country again until there is a change in manager.

Parlour says that won’t bother White, who has previously stated he doesn’t like football and doesn’t watch it when not playing. Parlour said on talkSPORT: “I think Ben White has been the surprise of Arsenal, really, because at right-back, nobody expected him to play at right-back.

“He can play in a three we know, but he’s done a great job for Arsenal, he really has. He’s made the back four a lot more solid but obviously, something has gone wrong at the World Cup, hasn’t it?

“Something’s gone wrong there. Why did he go home? Something’s happened there, I don’t know whether he said ‘you’re picking players instead of me, why am I here?’ and they fell out.

“That happens in football, you don’t always get on with your managers. If he has fallen out with Gareth, he probably won’t get another opportunity, which I don’t think Ben will be too concerned about.

“He loves his job, when he puts a shirt on he’ll do the best he can. I don’t think he’s a football fanatic if you like, like we are.”

Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Reece James were all named in the England squad ahead of White. Southgate said on Thursday that there was no space for either White or Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He said: “With Ben, it’s similar with Ben and Trent really. The three boys that are in as right full-backs, we’ve got them as just ahead of those two. We are blessed in that position with the depth of talent.”
