Arsenal are eyeing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as a possible replacement for the ‘unhappy’ Bernd Leno, according to reports.
Leno, 29, has been displaced as first-team goalkeeper by the £24million arrival Aaron Ramsdale in what appears to be a permanent changing of the guard.
The 23-year-old was brought in this summer from Sheffield United to provide competition with Leno’s future unclear due to his contract expiring next summer, though few would have expected him to make the number-1 position his own so quickly.
And with Leno frustrated at not having started any of the Gunners’ recent Premier League fixtures, the Daily Mail reports Arsenal are looking for a replacement as it becomes increasingly likely that the German will leave by summer 2022.
Leno recently made his frustrations clear in an interview with BILD, saying: "There was no clear reason why I was out [of the starting line-up], just that it had nothing to do with my performance.
"[Arteta] is the trainer, he decides. It’s difficult for me, of course."
Meanwhile, long-time Arsenal transfer target Raya has impressed massively so far this season for newly-promoted Brentford, who sit ninth in the table.
The 26-year-old Spaniard, along with Barcelona back-up keeper Neto, has been tipped as the favourite to replace Leno.
But Raya’s impressive form will make him unlikely to accept being second-choice while Neto will have similar concerns.

A third option for Mikel Arteta is Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was linked with a move to the Emirates this summer.
The Cameroonian is in the final year of his contract but has not played a competitive match since last January due to a doping ban.
Onana was in the process of finalising a move to Lyon in the summer but reportedly used it as a smokescreen to convince Ajax he would be leaving for a fee, only to remain at the club.
With the Dutch side now even more desperate to secure any kind of a fee for the 25-year-old, Arsenal will be in a good position to buy the player for cheap in January.
