Mikel Arteta confirmed he is "still open" to signing new players when quizzed about Arsenal's links with Jorginho.
Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has emerged a surprise transfer target for the Gunners boss, who is set on improving his side's midfield.
Arsenal's priority targets remain Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey, but little progress has been made in deals for the duo.
And with the 5 October transfer deadline looming, Arteta has identified Jorginho as an alternative to bolster his options in the centre of the park.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Liverpool on Monday night, the Spaniard refused to discuss the links with the Italian directly.
But he did confirm Arsenal could enter the market for fresh reinforcements, adding: "We are still open to improving our team.
"We are looking for different options depending on what happens with our players here. We are getting prepared just in case we need to do something."
Jorginho joined Chelsea for an initial fee of £50million in 2018, following former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri by making the move from Napoli to Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder made 54 appearances under Sarri, helping Chelsea clinch the Europa League trophy, and has continued to feature frequently since Frank Lampard took over in the Stamford Bridge hot seat last summer.
Jorginho is renowned for his prowess from the penalty spot and opened the scoring in Chelsea's 3-1 win over Brighton in their first match of the season.
But the 28-year-old was denied from 12 yards for the first time in his career in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend, as Alisson saved his penalty.
Jorginho was tipped to reunite with Sarri at Juventus earlier this summer, though the Italian manager was sacked and replaced by Andrea Pirlo to quash the speculation.
