Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard trolled by Hibs star after Rangers comments

Hibernian star Ryan Porteous has mercilessly trolled new Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard after beating Rangers 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

The defender played an integral role in his side preventing a Rangers comeback after Martin Boyle’s hat-trick gave the away team some leeway.

And Porteous rubbed salt in the wounds of opposition fans by taking a dig at recently departed boss Gerrard in his post-match interview with Premier Sports.

The 22-year-old mocked Gerrard’s now infamous clip as Rangers boss, where he hit back at a reporter after being questioned on his future with the Scottish side amid Premier League interest.

When quizzed by reporter Emma Dodds, Gerrard snidely replied: “Do I look happy? Do I look settled? Don’t ask me silly questions then.”

Porteous cheekily referenced the incident when talking to Dodds, saying: “Do we look happy? Don’t ask silly questions then.”

A clip of the two interviews alongside each other has since gone viral on Twitter with fans loving the dig towards Gerrard.

Gerrard, who won Rangers’ first domestic league title in a decade in the 2020/21 season, took charge of his first game with Aston Villa on Saturday.

His side managed to secure a 2-0 win at Villa Park over Brighton courtesy of late goals from Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings.

The Liverpool legend would have been pleased with the grit shown by his players late on, with the win taking the Villans up to 15th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone.

They will face Patrick Vieira’s impressive Crystal Palace side next in a visit to south London.
