Aston Villa host Brighton this afternoon as Dean Smith’s men look to build on their huge win over Arsenal.

Ollie Watkins scored twice in three minutes as Villa ran riot at the Emirates Stadium to continue their fine start to the season. They return from the international break sat sixth, three adrift of leaders Leicester.

In contrast, Brighton have just one win to speak of from their opening eight games and while performances have not been alarming, boss Graham Potter knows results are all that matters as they hover precariously above the relegation zone.

All eyes will once again be on Jack Grealish who played in all three matches for England during the November international break.

The Villa captain’s performance against top-ranked side Belgium was particularly impressive, as Grealish appears to be the man to fix the Three Lions’ creativity problems.

There are comparisons between Grealish and England legend Paul Gascoigne, with the 25-year-old commenting on those comparisons this week.

Brighton recall Lewis Dunk back into the side after serving a suspension for a red card against Crystal Palace. Joel Veltman is named on the bench.

Solly March starts for Graham Potter’s side in the left wing-back role while Neal Maupay is partnered up front with Danny Welbeck once again.

Unsurprisingly, Dean Smith names an unchanged side to the team that won away at Arsenal.

It means another start for captain Jack Grealish, who impressed in all three matches for England during the international break.

Ollie Watkins, who scored twice at the Emirates, leads the line for Villa this afternoon.

Welcome to this live coverage of the Premier League game between Aston Villa and Brighton at Villa Park.

Dean Smith’s side could go top of the Premier League for a few hours at least with victory by a sufficient margin. The Midlands club are on a high after a brilliant 3-0 victory away at Arsenal last time out.

The picture is very different for Graham Potter’s Brighton, who are six games without a win and sit firmly in the bottom half. Can they stop the rot?

Kick-off is at 3pm and we’ll have team news very soon…
