Barcelona President likes Chelsea boss Tuchel ‘the most’ as Koeman faces axe

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly identified Thomas Tuchel as his No.1 choice to replace Ronald Koeman.

Koeman finds himself under serious pressure at the Nou Camp amid an underwhelming start to the season which has seen Barca win just three of their first six La Liga matches.

However, it is their Champions League form which comes as the greatest concern, having suffered 3-0 defeats in each of their opening two fixtures against Bayern Munich and Benfica.

Saturday's trip to rivals Atletico Madrid is therefore a pivotal one for Koeman, who could fall victim to the axe if his side are beaten again.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta wants Tuchel to replace him if he is given the boot.

The German has worked wonders since joining Chelsea at the end of January, guiding them to Champions League glory in his first half-season as head coach.

He also appears poised to mount a Premier League title challenge this term after adding £97.5million striker Romelu Lukaku to his ranks.

Laporta will face difficulty in prising Tuchel away from Stamford Bridge, as he put pen to paper on a new contract in June which keeps him there until the summer of 2024.

It would be a major surprise if Barca, who are in turmoil both on and off the pitch right now, managed to convince him to leave the reigning European champions and hop on board their sinking ship.

His compatriot Jurgen Klopp has also been linked with the post in recent weeks, while Roberto Martinez has refused to rule out a potential move amid suggestions he could replace Koeman.

"At Barca, there is a war that hurts the players. I personally recommend to Xavi that he waits," Suarez said.
