That is according to former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison who believes the Brazilian offers something their current front three can’t.
Coutinho has struggled to settle at Barcelona following his £142m move from the Premier League club last January.
He has repeatedly been linked with a return to England with Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United and London giants Chelsea touted as interested parties.
The Reds could well be Premier League champions come the summer transfer window, and Morrison told talkSPORT the 26-year-old could solve some of the problems Jurgen Klopp has experienced this year.
He said: “I’ve got a lot of Liverpool fans as friends.
“They say they would love to have Coutinho back.
“He is probably that missing part of the jigsaw that Liverpool have struggled with.
“Sometimes in games when the front three aren’t doing it he can arrive in those little pockets and create.”
Other news involving the Premier League title chasers includes:
– Expert assesses Liverpool’s season
– Is Real Madrid’s Mane interest real?
– Could this game cost Reds the title?
“I’m surprised about Coutinho given the style of football they play there,” he added.
“Because Coutinho is fantastic talent but sometimes it is about whether you feel at home at a football club. He probably doesn’t.
“Where at Liverpool he was a superstar, he was the main man. But when you go to Barcelona you’re not because Messi is the main man.
“Every time you get the ball you’ve got to look for Messi so maybe he’s not showcasing his talent.”
