Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernandez has been given a six-month jail sentence by a Spanish court for breaching a restraining order in 2017.
Hernandez, 25, and his girlfriend, Amelia Ossa Llorente, were both handed restraining orders following a domestic violence incident, but they got married and went on their honeymoon after this.
The left-back had his request for the sentence to be suspended denied by a Madrid court and he will have 10 days to enter prison voluntarily from 11am next Tuesday, though he has appealed the decision.
He will be allowed to choose the jail where he serves his sentence should this appeal be denied as well.
The restraining orders were handed down after Hernandez and Ms Llorente had a fight in March of 2017, at which time the player was with Atletico Madrid.
Neither of the pair pressed charges against the other, but Ms Llorente was taken to hospital with minor injuries and Hernandez was convicted of domestic violence against her.
They were told they could not go within 500 metres of each other and were both sentenced to 31 days community service.
Hernandez was arrested as he got off a flight at Madrid Barajas Airport from Miami in June of the same year. He was handed his prison sentence in December 2019.
The news comes just days after he featured for France on international duty. He played the full game of the Nations League semi-final against Belgium and then was on the bench for the final against Spain.
A spokesman for the judge who turned down Hernandez’s appeal against his prison order said: “Madrid Criminal Court Number 32 has refused the suspension of his six month sentence.
“And it has told him he must attend court at 11am on October 19 so he can be informed he must enter prison voluntarily within ten days starting from that date.”
Henandez and Ms Llorente went on to have a son together but have since split, with the latter revealing so on social media in March 2019.
His appeal will be considered by judges at Madrid’s Audiencia Provincial Court.
