Borussia Dortmund chief responds to Arsenal’s Julian Brandt transfer interest

Borussia Dortmund technical director Michael Zorc has rubbished claims that Arsenal have made an offer for Julian Brandt.

The Gunners are desperate to add extra attacking creativity to the squad, after finding the net just 16 times in their opening 16 matches.

A number of names have been linked, including Houssem Aouar and Norwich City’s Emi Buendia.

However, according to reports, Aouar has slipped down the pecking order, with Brandt now considered as an option.

Bild reporter Christian Falk claimed that Mikel Arteta did have an interest in signing the 24-year-old, who signed for Dortmund after shining for Bayer Leverkusen.

Brandt has failed to replicate the form at Signal Iduna Park, registering just one assist in all competitions so far this season.

But Zorc has claimed there is ‘nothing on the table’ from Arsenal, but did admit he was aware of the speculation surrounding the player.

"I've read that too. I can't say more about it. Nobody answered, there is nothing on the table,” Zorc told Kicker.

Zorc’s counterpart at the Emirates, Edu, has admitted that to improve their fortunes, Arteta needs a player that can create chances through the middle.

“It’s quite clear what we need,” he said last month. “We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.”

Arteta meanwhile has claimed that Arsenal’s prioirty during the January window will be on trimming his bloated squad, suggesting they are unable to ‘sustain’ with the numbers they currently have.

Speaking ahead of the clash with West Brom, Arteta said: "We have a large squad and we knew that. A lot of things that should have happened in the summer, we could not accomplish for different reasons.

"There are some players who will go on loan or leave and that is the priority at the moment.

"We cannot sustain the numbers that we have in certain positions and we are looking to do that, and then we will see if we have the right opportunity in the positions where we need some more help."
