Bristol City have targeted a move for Crystal Palace defender Jake O’Brien.

The 21-year-old central defender is currently on loan at Belgian side Molenbeek, but City boss Nigel Pearson wants to take O’Brien ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

City initially wanted O’Brien on a loan, but it is understood the Championship club are now exploring a potential permanent deal.

Nigel Pearson’s side had initially explored a loan deal but now favour a permanent agreement

O’Brien has been a regular in Belgium since joining earlier this season – but he is yet to play a senior game for Palace.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Swindon, where he made 21 appearances in all competitions. 

The 21-year-old defender has also represented the Republic of Ireland at U21 level.

While O’Brien’s deal goes on, Patrick Vieira’s side are closing in on their own deadline day signing after agreeing a £10.5million fee for Stuttgart midfielder Naouirou Ahamada.

Sportsmail understands the central midfielder will join on a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further two years. 

Ahamada joined Stuttgart from Juventus and the French Under-18 international has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season for the Bundesliga side.
