Thomas Tuchel knows a large number of the players currently reporting for pre-season at Chelsea are not in his plans for next season. The Blues boss is looking to build on an impressive debut campaign in west London, as he guided Chelsea to their second Champions League title.
It wasn’t all upbeat though before glory in Porto.
Chelsea’s final day of the season defeat to Aston Villa nearly cost them a place in the top-four before Tottenham turned things around to win at Leicester.
Tuchel’s men were also beaten in the FA Cup final against the Foxes at Wembley.
Nonetheless, there is optimism that Tuchel is building something special at the club as he looks to strengthen before the start of next season.

Chelsea have been notorious for loaning out an abundance of players every year and every summer, those return to Cobham for training.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, a host of those are not in Tuchel’s plans for the new campaign.
It’s reported that up to 12 players will be told they can find a new club including last year’s recruit Malang Sarr who spent last season on loan at Porto.
The highest-profile names include Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who both endured mixed spells on loan at Aston Villa and Fulham respectively.

Danny Drinkwater and Trevor Chalobah could also be heading towards the exit door.
Jake Clarke-Salter, Charly Musonda, Matt Miazga, Lewis Baker and Baba Rahman could also move on.
Chelsea may hope they can recoup some money for Tiemoue Bakayoko and Davide Zappacosta though, with both now still of some value.
Bakayoko was snapped up for a fee in the region of £40million in the summer of 2017 following a stellar campaign with Monaco.
Yet the Frenchman soon went off the boil before spending time on loan at AC Milan, Monaco and Napoli.
The Blues would love to land top target Erling Haaland this summer but are facing an uphill battle.
However, selling their fringe players could prove imperative if they are to table an offer that satisfies Borussia Dortmund’s demands.
They remain adamant Haaland is not for sale at any price but it’s understood an offer in the region of £150million would be enough to get it over the line.
