Chelsea fans taunt Man Utd after Donny van de Beek ‘pocketed’ by star Lampard could sell

Manchester United fans were taunted by Chelsea supporters after new signing Donny van de Beek struggled to get one over Jorginho during Holland’s Nations League defeat to Italy last night.

United confirmed Van de Beek as their first summer signing last week after striking a £40million agreement with Ajax.

In contrast, Chelsea have spent over £200m in new additions with Frank Lampard building an exciting squad for the upcoming campaign.

There is also an air of expectation growing at Old Trafford with Van de Beek expected to complete the Red Devils’ midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

But the 23-year-old was hauled off after 57 minutes as his national team were defeated in 1-0 Amsterdam; Nicolo Barella netted the winner on the stroke of half-time.

Jorginho, who could be set to leave Chelsea over the coming weeks, starred for Italy, which left Chelsea supporters gleaming with pride on social media.

“Donny Van De Beek getting subbed after spending 57 minutes in Jorginho’s pocket,” one Blues fan wrote.

And another added: “Van de Beek spent 57 mins chasing Jorginho’s shadow. Man United fans compare him with every midfielder in the PL.”

A third user tweeted: “Jorginho pocketed Van de Beek in midfield all game. Had to get subbed because he couldn’t stand Jorginho’s heat.”

While a further Chelsea fan commented: “Van de Beek pocketed by our 6th choice midfielder.”

One more person wrote: “Jorginho had Van de Beek looking lost.”

Van de Beek will link up with his new United team-mates for the first time this week, and after signing the contract he said: “I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.

“I would like to thank everyone at Ajax. I grew up there and I will always have a special bond with the club.

“I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.

“Everyone has told me how amazing the Old Trafford atmosphere is and I am looking forward to experiencing that, once it is safe for the fans to return.

“This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.

“Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”
