Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva will both miss Saturday's clash with Newcastle.
Pulisic has had a stop-start beginning to the season and in Chelsea's last match before the international break against Burnley, he pulled out of the team after feeling his hamstring in the warm-up.
The 22-year-old played no part in the USA's matches during the break and is deemed not ready to resume full training ahead of the trip to St James' Park.
Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will also miss the match after playing for his national team in games against Venezuela and Uruguay.
"Pulisic is not fit for Newcastle but he's stepped up his training slowly," Lampard said.
"It has been quite a problematic injury, we have been cautious. Havertz has tested negative and started training with us.
"Thiago Silva has just landed, he probably won't be going to Newcastle because of timings.

"We're still waiting on some [Covid] tests. Some are arriving back this afternoon.
"With the 12.30 kick off on Saturday, there are clearly a lot of changes for us."
The Blues are boosted by the return of Kai Havertz after he tested positive for coronavirus two weeks ago.
Lampard also hit out at the scheduling which has made selection decisions awkward for him.
He said: "It is absolutely not the best way to prepare for a Premier League game.
"Injuries are going up across the Premier League. The muscle injuries are going up, the corrolation is clear."
