Coutinho provides Man Utd with transfer idea to resolve Sancho situation

Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has stalled – but the Red Devils may have found a solution.

The England star is United’s top target as they search for a new right winger but they are unwilling to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £100million valuation in the current climate.

They are ready to put their pursuit of Sancho on hold until next summer as a result.

The situation is similar to Bayern Munich’s long-running pursuit of Leroy Sane, who they were unable to get for the right price last summer before striking a deal 12 months later.

And, according to the Manchester Evening News, United could take inspiration from the Champions League winners and their handling of that situation.

Instead of signing Sane for an inflated fee last summer, the German club snapped up Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan.

The Brazilian helped the club to win the treble, including Champions League glory last month, but they decided against making the move permanent.

Instead, they went back and got their man with Sane signing a long-term deal with the club 12 months later than they had hoped.

United could now take the same approach Bayern did with Coutinho by finding a stop-gap solution either on loan or for a reduced fee.

It is claimed Ivan Perisic, a former transfer target under Jose Mourinho who also spent last year on loan at Bayern, could be an option.

Coutinho is also on the market but another loan move looks less likely after he returned to Barcelona with hopes of proving himself under new manager Ronald Koeman.

David Brooks has also been considered but, like Jack Grealish, is set to have a steep price tag.

As a result, the Red Devils might have to look further afield and come up with a more unorthodox solution as Bayern did when they landed Coutinho in an audacious swoop just before the season got underway.

If they come up empty then they may decide to bite the bullet and splash out on Sancho this summer even for a huge fee.
