Dejan Lovren has lifted the lid on his close bond with Mohamed Salah, while also hitting out at Sergio Ramos by claiming he is overrated.
The duo are often seen on social media together and are also often pictured in each other’s company in training following Salah’s move from Roma to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.
Lovren has now explained how the two have quickly become friends, citing common ground in their less than fortunate upbringings.
Dejan Lovren revealed the origins behind his friendship with Mohamed Salah
‘From day one, we felt this connection, the defender told Copa 90.
‘We have been talking a lot, we were talking about private things and we have a similar background, a tough life from the beginning.
‘It wasn’t easy to grow up where he was in Egypt without anything, and I had a similar thing in Croatia with the war and going back to Germany.
‘And then with his normality, how he can talk to you and when you see how he thinks… we are good friends, coffee, jokes!’

Having formed a good friendship with Salah it is perhaps unsurprising that Lovren has since gone on to criticise Sergio Ramos.
Salah was controversially injured in last season’s Champions League final against Real Madrid following a tangle with Ramos, paving the way for the Spanish side to clinch victory in Kiev.
Lovren went further to criticise Ramos’s ability, claiming he makes more mistakes than he does, while also stating that his Madrid team-mate Raphael Varane is a better player.

‘I like Varane, he deserves a lot of credit,’ Lovren added. ‘He doesn’t get it as much as Ramos gets. I don’t agree with that.
‘Definitely Varane is better, this season and previous seasons. He won the Champions League and the World Cup. He should be the best defender in the world and they chose Ramos.
‘Sometimes I don’t deserve the hate, I would say, If you look, Ramos has many more mistakes than me.
‘But he plays for Real Madrid, when you do a mistake you win 5-1 or 5-2, nobody cares about the mistake.
‘I’m quite unlucky in that when I make a mistake it’s 1-0 and the game is finished!
