Manchester United targets Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho will leave Borussia Dortmund if they fail to win silverware in the near future, says former Norwegian star Jan Aage Fjortoft.
Both players have been linked with moves to Old Trafford over the past year, with Sancho heavily expected to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s side in the previous summer window.
As for Haaland, he was reportedly on United’s radar before sealing a surprise £18million move to Dortmund in January – and it is believed the club are still interested in signing him.
Dortmund slumped to a 3-2 defeat against rivals Bayern Munich at the weekend, leaving them three points behind the Bundesliga champions after seven games.
And Fjortoft, who earned 71 caps for Norway in his own playing career, believes the German outfit will struggle to hold on to their star players if they don’t start winning trophies soon.
Haaland’s compatriot told ESPN: “Viv Anderson said to me, 'but Jan, it's quite easy, young kids want to win trophies – that's why they're in the game.'
“One day they will go away, meet each other now at international break and they will say 'you're a good team, you have good talent, how many trophies have you got?'
“I think that is the danger with Dortmund, now having the best Norwegian, the best American, the two best English, although Sancho is not at the moment unfortunately.
“That is the main challenge for Dortmund, how long can they keep these young kids without winning trophies and the culture needs to be built up.
“It's also typical that Bayern [have] got that culture at the moment because they have that winning mentality in there.”

Haaland has enjoyed a breathtaking start to life at Dortmund, scoring an astonishing 27 goals in 29 appearances since joining from Red Bull Salzburg at the start of the year.
Sancho bagged 20 goals in 44 games for the club last season, but has only managed two in eight this term amid a slight dip in form.
