Ex-Arsenal star Maty Ryan tries to sell bed and sofa on Twitter after Spain move

Transfer Deadline Day has been and gone, but former Brighton and Arsenal man Mat Ryan is looking to complete a few late moves of his own by selling his old furniture online.

Ryan, 29, joined Brighton from Valencia in 2017 after the Seagulls achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

He was the No.1 goalkeeper at the Amex until last December when he lost his place to Robert Sanchez and subsequently went on loan to Arsenal for the rest of the season, making three appearances for the Gunners.

The Australian stopper returned to Brighton at the end of his loan but was released following the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his four-year stint on the south coast.

He joined Spanish side Real Sociedad in July, and with no need for two lots of furniture, has put his second-hand belongings from his flat on Brighton beach up for sale via his Twitter page.

Ryan tweeted pictures of the item for sale inside his now sparse looking apartment.

Attempting to market the furniture to prospective buyers, he wrote: "Four years old. One double bed, one L-shaped sofa and one circular glass table with four dining table chairs.

"Kept in good condition. Currently in storage, pictures attached. Contact email below for any interest/inquiries."

Fans on Twitter couldn't quite believe what they were seeing.

One supporter wrote: "I actually love this guy so much hows a professional footballer selling tables on twitter like its facebook market place."

Another said: "You earn too much to be doing this for a couple hundred quid."

Someone else moaned: "Surely this is a p*** take?! Making millions each year and trying to sell a few pieces of furniture via Twitter. Just donate them man!!"

A fourth user joked: "Can I take the couch. Loan with option to buy?"

Others, however, more sympathetic to Ryan's tweet.

One supporter defender the Aussie stopper, saying: "You guys are forgetting footballers are normal people too. For many it’s literally just a job…Hope you’re enjoying the Spanish sun, Maty and sell off some of this stuff!"
